One Flew Over the….

So close.  I woke up with good intentions today.  I got my hair looking nice (no shave though) and brought in Ken Kesey’s One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest to read during downtime.  I got settled in and was almost done going through my emails, buzz, and reader when all of a sudden nintendo8 shows up. Aaaand I’m done for. It’s way too easy to get sucked into this madness. While I didn’t accomplish too much, I can’t say I didn’t enjoy my time spent, except for one caveat.

It’s extremely frustrating to try and play these games in a browser with a keyboard!  Especially when you remember tearing through them with the controller; having your jumps timed perfectly for the blocks in Magnet Man’s level, or the deft touch that got you that engine upgrade in RC ProAM.  The difficulty with the controls is what kept me going though, I think.  “I’m not really this bad at games am I?  I know it’s been a few years since I’ve really played these games in particular, and my general play time has dropped considerably since college and especially with 2 400 level classes and working almost full time, but I can’t really be THIS BAD!”

So the hours wasted away and still there are no customers in the store  to help take my mind off the 8bit browser.  I got stuck fighting in my mind because I wouldn’t admit that the keyboard made gaming that much more difficult and had to prove to myself that I hadn’t lost “it”.  Maybe tonight I’ll go home and try to find the cords for the system and see if I can really just blame the lousy keyboard for my failings today.

Either way you look at it, it was a hard fail.  I’ll be getting back with the book review asap and am toying around with the idea of re-reading my way through the WoT series again and chronicling my way through the series to help keep focus on plot points.  Not sure if I should start now or wait a little longer so that by the time I get back to the end, the last 2 books will be out.
