The Best Face For The Infomercial World?
Due to popular demand in the room I am currently in, I am posting a discussion regarding Billy Mays and Mr. Sham Wow.
Who is going to be remembered as the best face for the infomercial world?
Lets see..on one hand we have Sham Wow. A revolutionary, multi-use cleaning cloth sold by an over enthusiastic man with an awkward headset on a mission. His objective? To show you every possible situation in which Sham Wow would come out on top. “You’ll say wow every time you use Sham Wow.” “Sham Wow holds 20x’s its weight in liquid!” “Sham Wow is for the house, the car, the boat, the RV!” It seems like Sham Wow is the best thing since sliced bread; is it? I have no clue I haven’t mustered the courage to purchase myself a Sham Wow. Have any of you?
On the other hand we have Billy Mays’ , the pitch man who could sell you anything. I’ve never known of anyone who could sell as well as Billy -well besides John, he can sell ice to Eskimos and mud to pigs; but that’s a different story-. Billy on the other hand sells a Big City Slider Station which enables you to make restaurant style mini hamburgers in your own kitchen! Little does the average buyer of this realize that all your really getting is a tray and a scooper. Somehow Mr. Mays persuades you to believe that you need the special tray and scoop when we all know that’s not true.
Then again that’s exactly what Sham Wow does.
Mad about it? I’m not….that’s what makes a good salesman.
I 100% have to side with Billy Mays. Although Sham Wow is very convincing, when it all comes down to it, it really is just a multi-purpose cloth. Whereas Billy Mays sells not only multi-purpose cloth’s (Zorbeez) he sells vast amount of other -although some very useless- products such as the Tool Bandit, the Hercules Hook, and yes even the Awesome Auger.
I don’t like to take sides usually but on this one I have to.
